Despite lockdown easing in the UK, daily life remains different for many and some parts of society are facing moments of hardship. As a result, British private schools and other establishments have been working to generate funds for local charities. Junior and senior school pupils at St. Benedict's School were given a collective target to cover 1,195 miles – the distance from Ealing to Montecassino in Italy, where St Benedict established an abbey. In fact, they far exceeded this target, covering a distance between them of around 2,500 miles.

In doing this, Pupils and staff at St Benedict’s School have raised almost £3,000 for The Trussell Trust, a charity which runs a network of food banks in the UK. The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks, providing emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. It also campaigns to end the need for food banks in the UK. Head of athletics at St Benedict’s, Myles Stringer, said: “This was a combined effort, taking place over one week, with everyone tracking their exercise and finding sponsors. Many joined our Strava group which has been a great way to keep friendly competition. We’ve been very impressed by the outstanding efforts of the children each week to keep themselves fit and healthy, raising such an incredible sum for a very worthwhile cause in the process.”
