Casterton School, Cumbria
Casterton is a day and boarding school covering 3 through to 18. It is co-educational up to 11 but only takes girls in the senior school.
In recent years Casterton has produced some excellent exam results, despite not being overly selective on its admissions policy. In 2008 it was one of the ten best UK girls senior boarding schools with 91.43% of A Level grades being A or B.
The school is situated in glorious countryside with stunning views from every window. It is on the borders of 3 counties – Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire – and yet is only 8 miles from the M6 motorway for easy access to Manchester (airport), Liverpool, Leeds and Scotland.
For day pupils, the school is convenient for Kirby Lonsdale, Lancaster, Kendal, Morecambe, Carnforth and Settle.
A large range of subjects are offered at GCSE and A Level, with the majority of girls progressing to Oxbridge or Russell Group Universities.
The lovely countryside location provides a safe and secure environment for parents worried about boarding their daughters. It also lends itself to numerous sports and outdoor activities, including hockey, lacrosse, tennis, cross country, netball, sailing and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Horse riding is particularly popular and girls may bring their own horse to school.

Looking back from the Upper Sixth
‘When I came to Casterton as a boarder from living overseas as an expat, it all felt strange. As I leave Casterton at the end of this year, I am able to report that the school food is fantastic, with sticky toffee pudding much better than my mother's. The memories I have are based on shared experiences with my friends. We are all going to study a wide a variety of subjects, ranging from medicine to veterinary science, engineering and event management. I have loved the opportunities to play sport and be captain of the first netball team. I am going on to study Archaeology at Cambridge and would say to anyone, make the most of your time at Casterton and get stuck in!'

'Nina is loving it at Casterton. She has made tremendous leaps in terms of her self-confidence, as well as seeming to be doing as well as we've ever hoped academically and at sport, and I'm sure that the positive nurturing atmosphere at Casterton is the reason why. She absolutely loves it there!' Mrs A, a parent of a Year 7 pupil
'A big thank you to the staff for making Daisy's transition so smooth...' Mrs C, a parent of a new Year 7 pupil
'As far as my wife and I are concerned, Caroline has had a tremendous all-round education, as did her sister before her, and she leaves school as a poised and confident young woman.' Col M, a parent whose daughter recently left the Upper Sixth
